ANNOBON Island -- culmination of a DX dream. A dream that began with looking at the pictures of the 1971 3CØAN operation. The dream continued with working the 1979 3CØAB group (while we were operating as 9Q5DH and 9Q5WH). We tried to go in right behind 3CØAB but couldn't make it. Then, finally, in January 1982: the third DXpedition, and the first YL opreation from ANNOBON: 3CØBC and 3CØAC were on the air!
Many wonderful people, of different nationalities, assisted us in our journey (through the red tape jungle as well as through the geographical one). Special appreciation, of course, must go to the Government of Equitorial Guinea -- to the Ministry of Telecommunications, to the Ministry of Tourism and Information, and to all who helped (the list goes from Ambassadors to fishermen). Our greatest thanks, and fondest memories, are of the very nicest, kindest and most hospitable people in the whole world -- the people of Annobon.
(Our not-so-fond memories include scorpions, tarantulas, mosquitoes and the almost suffocating equitorial heat and humidity).
Amateur Radio really is a unique opportunity to "tune in the world", and as we're happy to be able to report, there's a lot of wonderful people in the world -- it's full of friends you just haven't had a chance to meet yet! On this trip, we met some more of them; serendipity for sure!
