AH4/AHØW Midway Island Frank AHØW along with Frank W2UE, Jack WA7LNW, Patrick NH6UY, and Andy UA3AB organized this DXpedition to Midway Island in 1996.  The team made approximately 35,000 QSOs.  This was the last DXpedition before the US Navy turned the island over to the US Fish and Wildlife Refuge.  This DXpedition led to the formation of the Midway-Kure DX Foundation which has donated to island-going dxpeditions. Midway is located approximately 1250 miles northwest of Honolulu.ls Discovered in 1859, Midway was claimed by the United States under the Guano Act of 1867 and later served as a telegraph relay station and a refueling stop for Pan Am's "China Clipper" flights as well as a strategic air station for the United States Navy.
