N4XP, along with NI6T co-organized a large operation to Kingman Reef in 2000. Operations from Kingman Reef had been few and far between because of the extremely difficult travel required to get there. Sailing directly from KH6 was long and hard and using Palmyra as a stopping over point was not possible because the island was in the midst of changing ownership. Christmas Island (T32) was used this time as the staging area and Palmyra was visited en route during the four day sail. KH6ND, a team member was on Palmyra at the time and was picked up while en route to Kingman. While on Palmyra, the team spent six hours touring the island and operating. N4XP also operated as N4XP/KH5 making several hundred QSOs.
The Kingman team consisted of fifteen operators of which one was WA1S who provided the first YL operation from KH5K. The team was multi national with representation from the US, Italy, Japan, Canada and Russia. Before the operation closed down after 9.5 days then team had made over 80,000 QSO's using 160 to 6 meters. Especially noteworthy was over 1,400 QSOs on 6 meters.
