Program:  Operating from Malta as 1AØKM

Our program for March will be presented by SEDXC member Joe Owen, KO4RR. Joe and Vicki N4WV, operated from 1AØKM last summer.

The Sovereign Order of Malta is an interesting DX entity.  In fact, the Order is part of a wider community, Sovereign Military Hospitaller Order of St. John of Jerusalem of Rhodes and of Malta.  This order is an ancient one, dating back to Jerusalem in the 11th century.  There were knights back in those far-off days, and in fact there are today around 12,500 Knights and Dames of Malta in various places around the globe.  And, much as with the excitement Monk Apollo provides from his rare but nearby DX location, Sovereign Malta becomes a hot spot for DXers when it is activated.

Joe is going to give us a little history, tell us about his ham activity there and give us a video tour of hams in action there.  We'll get a look at the antenna farm and equipment as well as the legendary gardens.  No trip to Rome would be complete without a little sightseeing, and Joe will show us his favorite spots in Rome as well.

Joe will finish up with a Q&A session, so have yours ready.  Joe, I know what mine is.  What is the possibility of getting a 160m antenna in action there which will allow contacts from Marietta?  Make your plans to attend the upcoming meeting to find out more about the Sovereign Order of Malta and its Knights, Dames, and hams.
